- Cut Anthurium
Anthurium
A cliché, but true; it is impossible not to feel cheerful when you see the Anthurium. This beautiful cut flower brightens up any interior with its colourful spathes. Its exotic appearance gives it away; Anthuriums originally come from the rainforests of Colombia. They are grown in greenhouses throughout the Netherlands and are available year-round. The flower can last three to four weeks if the stem is regularly cut at an angle.
Symbolism
The name Anthurium is derived from the Greek words "anthos" and "oura." These words mean "flower" and "tail", which is very appropriate for the Anthurium. Anthurium is a symbol of exotic beauty thanks to its origin and appearance.
Colours
With its wide variety of colours, the selection of Anthuriums ranges from pink to orange, purple to yellow and salmon to black. Or choose a spectacular multi-coloured Anthurium! Veined Anthuriums are dual-coloured and have a red spike. They have red veins and seem to have a red blush/lip. The Romance variety, with its gradient from green to pink, has a beautiful multi-coloured spathe.
Shapes
Anthuriums come in different shapes and sizes, as cut flowers and as plants! The most common shape of the Anthurium is a heart shape. The tulip shaped cut flower Anthuriums are, as the name implies, shaped like a tulip. One example of a tulip shaped Anthurium is the Facetto.
Anthuriums are also available in smaller sizes, these are called Lovely's. The diameter of this flower is 7 to 8 centimetres, and its stem length is 40 to 45 centimetres. This size makes it really eye-catching and easy to work with. In addition to smaller sizes, there are also larger sizes. Examples include the tulip-shaped Marea, the raspberry Impulz or the white-green Denali.
Arranging in a bouquet
The Anthurium cut flower is ideal for use in a bouquet. To illustrate and inspire this versatility, here are some ideas for a colourful Anthurium bouquet!
Calm appearance
Combine flowers that are similar in colour. This gives it a calmer feel, but there is still plenty to explore!
Minimalist
For a smaller bouquet, two varieties of Anthurium can be combined along with spring branches!
WOW effect
The bigger the better? Then combine different flowers and branches. Create a grand but atmospheric bouquet by using warm colours.
Did you know that the Anthurium's flower is called the spike, and this is the "finger" sticking out of the spathe? So the brightly coloured leaf is not the flower, but the Anthurium's spathe.
